SPORTS: Women's Basketball Loses Another Road Game

by Kristin Haseley

The 3-5 IUPUI Women’s Basketball team entered Monday night’s Summit League action with hopes of breaking a 34 road game losing streak. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the cards for the Jags as they dropped the second game of the weekend, 73-65. The Lady Jags met an equal opponent in the University of South Dakota Coyotes, who shared the same Summit League record of 3-5.  However, only the University of South Dakota was rewarded with their fourth conference win of the year at the end of the night.

The Jaguars traveled to Swinney Recreation Center at UMKC Saturday evening in hopes of completing a three game winning streak.  The Kangaroos had other plans though, as they defeated the Lady Jaguars 63-55.  Eilise O’Connor lead UMKC to the victory with 19 points, six assists, and three steals.  IUPUI falls to 8-12 overall and 3-5 in Summit League play.

SPORTS: IUPUI Sweeps Short Home-Stand With Win Over Southern Utah

by Kristin Haseley

An intense battle Monday night saw the IUPUI Lady Jaguars defeat the Southern Utah Thunderbirds 56-49.  The Thunderbirds entered the game without a single Summit League victory, but early on it looked like they might steal one from the Jaguars.  A determined Jaguar squad, that had just beaten Oral Roberts on Saturday, stepped up their play and made a second half run to get the win.

SPORTS: Men's Basketball Falls At Home To Southern Utah

by Candis Cunningham

"It was an extremely slow start and that doomed us from the get-go," Howard said. "Our older guys were not ready to play. That's been the theme all year. We can sugarcoat it, but that was inexcusable."

That’s the first time all year head coach Todd Howard has admitted aloud the struggles that have been the downfall to the IUPUI (8-11, 2-5 Summit) losing record.

AROUND CAMPUS: Homecoming Week Festivities

by Kim Mezger

"Let the Good Times ROAR!"

Kim Mezger: When did Homecoming begin at IUPUI?
Tyler Neal, SAPB Media Resource: A few years ago, a group of students were awarded a grant that allowed them to have the funds to put together a few events that began the revival of IUPUI's Homecoming. The previous year consisted of a very simple way to engage students and to bolster student pride in athletics and IUPUI in general. The programs were so successful that the organizations involved decided to give it another go! The newly formed IUPUI Homecoming Committee is formed by SAPB, SOAR, Student Athlete Advisory Council, RHA, Fraternity and Sorority Life, and USG. Theyare striving to create Homecoming into a lasting tradition here at IUPUI. This will be the third consecutive Homecoming since it’s resurrection a couple of years ago. Our goal is to bolster IUPUIPride through a series of fun-filled events and involvement with Athletics.

KM: What are your visions for how this year will go?

TN: We’ve been planning since late April – we have an awesome line-up of performers, events and freebies. You can expect to see comedians, magicians, musical guests, tons of games, competitions, and more! We’re expecting to see even more people participate this year. Last year we were given the opportunity to make an impact on campus and this is something we plan on continuing throughout this year.

KM: What are some reasons IUPUI should get involved in Homecoming?
TN: Well, first and foremost – it’s free. It’s a great way to show your IUPUI Pride and end the stigma of IUPUI “not being like other schools.” We want people involved – Homecoming is a great way to lure people out to show their JagPride and participate in some fun, free events. Not to mention, who doesn’t love a free t-shirt? Oh hey – did I mention free stuff? Get ready to Let the Good Times ROAR!!

Have you ever gone bowling and rolled the ball right down the middle? The ball has some nice pace as you hear the soft rotation humming down the lane before it hits the pins. You just know you are about to hit a strike and see the graphics on the score screen telling the entire bowling alley what you just did.

by Candis Cunningham

Alex Young has been named IUPUI’s Male Athlete of the Month for the 5-3 record he lead the Jags to in December. However, even his 25 points couldn’t get IUPUI over the hump Thursday night against IPFW losing 72-67.

SPORTS: Men's Basketball Rides Six Game Win Streak Through Holidays

by Candis Cunningham

The holidays are supposed to signify gifts and joyous times and the New Year is a fresh start. The IUPUI Jaguars indeed brought in the holidays with joy, almost as if they were singing the holiday classic, “Tis the Season to Be Jolly” the entire time.

The New Year may be the start of a “new year” if IUPUI (8-8, 2-2) continues rolling like they have winning a league’s best six straight games in the sweet December home stand.
